What Is Read Aloud Basic?
More Than Reading Aloud
Read Aloud is a guided reading program designed to strengthen focus, comprehension, clarity, and independent thinking—inspired by the way children first develop language through hearing and repeating stories.
Notice What’s There—and What’s Missing
As they read, participants learn to notice what they understand, what they don't yet understand, and what may be missing. They are encouraged to pause, think, and form their own questions rather than simply move from one sentence to the next.
Slow Down and Engage
Reading aloud is used here as more than a way to practice fluency. By slowing down and reading with intention, participants have the opportunity to stay focused, process what they are reading, and engage more deeply with the ideas on the page.
Learning to Think for Yourself
The goal is not simply to read more. It is to develop the habit of staying with an idea, noticing what isn't immediately visible, asking meaningful questions, and thinking for yourself.
Read slowly.
Notice deeply.
Ask better questions.
Think for yourself.
