One Big Fat Notebook Camp
One Big Fat Notebook Camp
See the Big Picture.
Find Your Questions.
Make It Your Own.
One Big Fat Notebook Camp is designed to help students go beyond simply studying a subject.
By working through one book deeply, students learn to see the whole picture of a subject, recognize what they don't understand, ask their own questions, and connect ideas. This can support what students are learning in school—but our goal goes beyond academic performance. We want students to develop the ability to see, question, connect, and apply what they learn. This is where creativity begins.
🌱 Three Read-Aloud Passes
For 10 days, students spend two 50-minute sessions reading aloud each day, approaching the same book in different ways.
First Pass — See the Forest (1-4 days)
Students read to understand the big picture. They notice unfamiliar words, concepts, and ideas without stopping to find every answer.
Second Pass — Explore the Forest (5-7 days)
Students return to what they didn't understand and look for answers within the book itself.
Instead of immediately being given an explanation, they learn to search, connect, and figure things out.
Third Pass — Make It Your Own (8-10 days)
Students revisit what they have learned and begin to make the knowledge their own—connecting ideas, putting concepts together, and thinking about how they can use what they know.
⭐We Don't Give Students the Answers.
There are already countless easy ways to find an answer.
But finding an answer is not the same as knowing what to do with it.
✨We believe real learning happens
when students learn how to find their own questions, make connections, and think for themselves.
The goal is not to memorize the book. The goal is to make the book yours.
